The Difference Between Home Support and Care Services

Blue Dove was created to help people live at home independently and we are often asked about the difference between home support and care services.
What is Home Support?
Home support is designed to provide non-medical assistance for daily chores such as cleaning, cooking, washing, tidying, shopping, garden maintenance, accompanied visits or simply companionship.
These are all services that enables individuals to live comfortably, safely and independently in their own homes but can be provided without the need for a formal care assistant.
Alongside home support services, a formal care assistant may provide help with getting out of bed, washing, using the toilet, taking medication and getting to bed.
Both Home Support Plan and a Care Plan can, therefore, provide a balanced range of services to help individuals to receive the right level of assistance each day. So, for individuals with a long term disability, or those recovering from a short term illness, these day-to-day practical jobs and medical needs can be dealt with. This can bring peace of mind to individuals and to their families.
How Home Support can Work Alongside Care Support
In practice, a care assistant might visit in the morning to wash and dress the client as well as ensuring medication is administered. During the day your Home Support Assistant may take you to an appointment or social meeting; in the evening, prepare a meal, washup, clean and tidy the home. A final visit from the Care Assistant in the evening will cover any further medication or preparation for bed.
Together, both services can enable affordable services as well as companionship and a safe, enjoyable day.
The Difference Between Home Support and Care Services and Home Support Services from Blue Dove
Blue Dove was created by Jane and Clare, both of whom come from former NHS nursing background and so are very used to providing the sympathetic and reliable help people need. These services include:
• General housework including cleaning and tidying
• Washing, ironing and making beds
• Clearing rubbish and recycling
• Meal preparation
• Shopping, collecting prescriptions, returning purchases
• Help with IT, filling out forms, etc
• General home maintenance, changing bulbs, gardening and we'll help organise larger projects
These services can take the worry of such day-to-day chores off your hands whilst, if needed, formal care assistants can provide any physical or medical support required.
